VIS
Background
Växjö International Student, VIS, is a non-profit student organisation based in Linnaeus Universiy (formerly known as Växjö University), Sweden. In April 2010, I contacted the organisation to re-design their existing web site. The website was designed and published in within two weeks in the same month.
Objectives
- The layout must remind of typical Swedish countryside.
- Easy to navigate, maintain and update
- All board members of organisation must be able to control the content of site
- A calendar where users can easily browse through upcoming activities and find detailed information
- A gallery where pictures taken during activities are displayed
Project Details
Based on the objectives listed above, the followings were performed.
- Layout designed from scratch in Illustrator and Photoshop
- A unique and customised WordPress theme developed based on layout
- Tuning of XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP
- Necessary plugins (calendar and gallery) adjusted in accordance with preferences
- Customised backend functionalities to ease management of web site for all board members who are not familiar with WordPress environment
- Advanced QuickPress functionality embedded into Admin Panel to speed up post management
- Navigation improved with jQuery and Hotkeys so that visitors can navigate through the website via arrow keys on keyboard
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) performed
- Extensive multimedia features integrated in order that the organisation would be able to post multimedia elements such as images, video, notes and links.
- Archives and Sitemap pages added to provide more control to visitors over the website
- Integration with the official Facebook page
- Extended Calendar, Contact Form and Gallery functionalities
