VIS (Växjö International Students)
Background
Växjö International Student, VIS, is a non-profit student organisation based in Linnaeus Universiy (formerly known as Växjö University), Sweden. I was contacted by the organisation in December 2008 to re-design their existing web site. The web site was launched in March 2009.
Objectives
- The layout must remind of typical Swedish weather (cloudy, rainy, and grey sky)
- The layout must contain internationally recognised Swedish icons such as Pippi Longstocking, Dalecarlian horse, and Moose
- The layout must remind of spring season of Sweden, which is absolutely amazing, and also represent the colourful international student environment
- Easy to navigate, maintain and update
- All board members of organisation must be able to control the content of site
- A calendar where users can easily browse through upcoming activities and find detailed information
- A gallery where photographs taken during activities are displayed
Project Details
Based on the objectives listed above, the followings were performed.
- Layout designed from scratch in Illustrator and Photoshop
- A unique and customised Wordpress theme developed based on layout
- Tuning of XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP
- Necessary plugins (calendar and gallery) adjusted in accordance with preferences
- Customised backend functionalities to ease management of web site for all board members who are not familiar with Wordpress environment
- Improved SEO
